A lichenoid tissue reaction implies:
  1. A band-like lymphocytic infiltrate in the upper dermis, that parallels the undersurface of the epidermis - suggesting but distinct from epidermotropism.

    AND MAY INCLUDE

  2. Basal cell layer degeneration ( hydropic or liquifactive changes ).
